Looking for chip and crack repair on porcelain or cast iron tubs? See Bathtub Chip & Crack Repair. Both pages cover repair, this one is specifically for fiberglass.

Fiberglass is the most common bathtub and shower material in homes built since the 1970s. It's lightweight, affordable, and easy to install, but it's also more prone to cracks, chips, holes, and structural damage than porcelain or cast iron. The good news: fiberglass repair is one of the most cost-effective home repair projects there is, and the result is structurally as strong as the original.

Common problems we repair:

  • Hairline cracks in tub floors that flex with use
  • Star cracks radiating from a single impact point
  • Holes from dropped objects, leaking fixtures, or screw penetrations
  • Cracks in shower pans that have started leaking
  • Cracks in pool steps from impact or freeze damage
  • Chips and gouges in fiberglass walls and surrounds

For full pool step refinishing service (cracks, surface refresh, and slip-resistant coating combined), see pool step refinishing.

How fiberglass repair works

Fiberglass repair is structural before it's cosmetic. The crack or hole gets reinforced from underneath (when accessible) with fiberglass cloth and resin, then filled and shaped on the visible side, then sanded smooth. After the structural repair is sound, the area gets refinished, either spot-refinished if the rest of the surface is in good shape, or the whole tub or shower gets refinished for a uniform result.

For a crack in a fiberglass tub, that means: dig out the crack to expose stable material, reinforce with structural fiberglass, fill, sand, and refinish. The repair becomes part of the tub, stronger than the original cracked material, with a finish that matches the rest of the surface.

Done properly, fiberglass repair is invisible after refinishing. Done improperly (the wrong filler, no structural reinforcement, no refinish over the top), the repair fails within months and the homeowner has to start over with a different company.

How much does fiberglass repair cost?

Fiberglass repair pricing depends on the surface area, material, and condition, it varies too much to quote one flat price honestly. Three ways to get yours: call us at 850-204-9300, text photos of your project to the same number, or use Get Pricing Now for a free same-day quote. No deposit required.

How long does fiberglass repair last?

A properly executed fiberglass repair is permanent. The structural reinforcement integrates with the original fiberglass and is typically stronger than the surrounding cracked area was. The cosmetic refinish over the top holds up for 15+ years or longer with proper care, backed by a 5-year written warranty.

Spot repair vs. full refinish: what's right?

Some fiberglass repairs make sense as spot work; others are better paired with a full refinish. We'll be honest about which fits your situation.

Spot repair fits when…
  • The rest of the tub or shower is in good cosmetic shape
  • The damage is localized (one crack, one chip, one hole)
  • Color match to the surrounding surface can be achieved with confidence
Full refinish fits when…
  • The whole surface is dated, stained, or dull
  • There are multiple damaged areas
  • Color change is wanted (best done across the whole surface uniformly)
  • The tub is more than 10 years old and likely to need a refinish soon anyway

  • Yes. Proper structural repair plus refinishing produces a result that's stronger than the original cracked area and looks uniform with the rest of the surface. The key is doing the structural repair right, not just filling the visible crack with putty.
